you the story of one of the most iconic products and one that holds a very
special place at LCN: WEBER carburetors, which we manufacture
exclusively at our facilities.
A product with more than a century of
history that continues to be part of our present and our passion for the
automotive world. From Edoardo Weber to Lorenzo
Caballero: a century of excellence, a story of passion for the
automotive world, and a legacy ? that of Weber carburetors ? that is more alive
than ever.
Edoardo Weber (1889?1945) was an Italian engineer whose work revolutionized
carburetor engineering during the first half of the 20th century. After gaining
valuable experience in the automotive industry, particularly at FIAT, Weber
became convinced that the performance, efficiency, and reliability of internal
combustion engines could be significantly improved through much more precise
fuel metering.
Driven by this vision, in 1923 he
founded the Fabbrica Italiana Carburatori Weber in Bologna.
Initially focused on supplying carburetors for Fiat vehicles, the company
quickly earned a reputation for technical excellence. Weber products soon
became renowned for their precision, reliability, and ability to deliver
superior performance as automotive technology evolved.
In 2005, Lorenzo
Caballero made the decision to continue this story by restarting the production
of original Weber carburetors in Guadalajara,
following the acquisition of the original manufacturing plant. A firm
commitment to local industry, tradition, and manufacturing know-how.
Unlike many manufacturers of the
time, Weber did not simply refine existing designs. He approached fuel delivery
as a true engineering discipline, continuously developing venturi geometries,
throttle configurations, and fuel circuits with the aim of achieving smoother
operation, greater efficiency, and consistent performance throughout the
engine’s entire rev range.
Today, LCN’s objective
remains unchanged: to maintain originality in order to preserve the
value of classic vehicles, while safeguarding the quality,
precision, and reliability of a product that is as complex as it is
iconic.
During the 1930s, Weber became
closely associated with the rapid growth of Italian motorsport. Racing teams
demanded carburetors capable of delivering high airflow and extremely precise
mixture control under the most demanding operating conditions. Weber responded
to this challenge by developing innovative twin-barrel carburetors that
significantly improved cylinder filling, throttle response, and engine
performance. These technological advances quickly found their way into
production sports cars, where the same qualities valued on the racetrack ?
power, flexibility, responsiveness, and reliability ? proved equally attractive
to enthusiastic drivers.
In 2016, LCN took another
step forward by bringing back carburetor families that had disappeared from the
market and whose absence threatened the preservation of certain classic
vehicles. Among them was the iconic three-barrel IDA 3C for Porsche.
These technological advances quickly
found their way into production sports cars, where the same qualities valued on
the racetrack ? power, flexibility, responsiveness, and reliability ? proved
equally attractive to enthusiastic drivers.
Following Edoardo Weber’s death in
1945, the company continued to grow without abandoning the engineering
principles established by its founder. His philosophy of continuous technical
improvement became a cornerstone of the company, enabling Weber to establish
itself as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance
carburetors.
In 1952, Weber became
part of the FIAT Group and was subsequently integrated into Magneti Marelli,
ensuring that Weber carburetors continued to be developed and manufactured for
both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the international aftermarket.
This industrial integration combined
Weber’s technical specialization with the manufacturing capabilities of one of
Europe’s largest automotive groups, further strengthening the brand’s
international reputation.
Today, LCN is the only
facility worldwide authorized and equipped to manufacture genuine WEBER
carburetors.
This commitment to classic motoring
is reflected in the production and supply of 50,000 genuine carburetors
every year, preserving the authenticity, quality, and legacy of one of the
automotive world’s most historic brands.
Through this initiative, LCN
continues to contribute to the preservation and appreciation of classic
vehicles, while keeping alive the passion and enthusiasm of those who make
it possible for these automotive treasures to remain on the road, generation
